Relocating from Shanghai to downtown Chicago, the clients sought a refined and elegant interior that reflected their traditional aesthetic as seen through a modern lens. Beginning with an empty white box, a classical foundation was laid with custom millwork, ebony stained floors, and limestone tile. Cherished family heirlooms and classical details such as trimmed, waterfall skirts on the upholstery juxtapose saturated coral velvet and abstract patterned textiles. This blend of furnishings from multiple periods and styles comes together to create a harmonious interior, rich with depth, meaning, and history.

A pair of ebony stained, mahogany pocket doors allows for more formal entertaining while preserving light and a sense of openness.

Centuries old horseshoe chairs and an antique altar table were among the family heirlooms the clients brought with them from China. Pairing these treasured objects with a contemporary color palette and accents gave them new life in the 21st century.

Antiques have stories to be told and a connection to our past, something that should be celebrated and given pride of place, even in modern interiors.
