Every aspect of this 900 square foot lakeside cottage in western Michigan was designed to create a summer respite from bustling city living. A new architectural plan was drafted that included relocating the original enclosed basement stairs to the side of the space and vaulting the new great room ceiling, allowing for a central, light-filled gathering point in the home. Crisp, linen colored walls and a whitewashed oak plank floor provided a fresh backdrop to family friendly materials. Layers of textures like bleached finishes reminiscent of driftwood, stone washed linens, breezy sheers, and natural fibers create a subtle nod to beachside living.
Cabinetry finished in a shade of paint reminiscent of dune grass was combined with a stained glass mosaic backsplash, further evoking a palette of the nearby shoreline.
Unique items like the vintage blue painted chests in the guest room or a local artist’s photograph of a quiet moment on Lake Michigan are the kind of details that set this house apart.
