Located in a prominent building at the crux of the Chicago River, every element of this 2000 square foot unit was reimagined. Taking down the central wall that divided the space allowed for a more ample great room and angled walls and concealed pocket doors redefined how the space could be used, creating interesting sight lines and a more efficient use of the square footage. A palette of warm neutrals was selected to highlight sleek, sculptural furnishings and bold, abstract works of art, all thoughtfully curated for the clients. The goal was to balance clean lines and crisp forms with organic shapes and crafted materials for a visually compelling aesthetic.

Floor to ceiling mahogany side panels complement the scraped limestone facade on the fireplace while wire brushed, wide plank floors offer a natural counterpoint to the sleek, angled mouldings and dark walnut stained doors used throughout the home.

In the kitchen, reverse cerused oak modern cabinetry is contrasted with a more transitional style below, painted a custom shade of bronze. Emphasis was especially paid to thoughtful details like inverted beveled edges on stone countertops, toned steel hardware and bronze mirror lining the floating glass shelves of the bar.

In the baths, shades of linen and cream combine with warm grey and dark metals for an elevated blend of tone and texture.

While the aesthetic is decidedly contemporary, there remains a feeling of warmth and comfort, balancing luxe materials with a sense of ease.
